Guyanese (Shrimp) Chow Mein

Guyanese Shrimp Chow Mein

A very popular dish in Guyana. Guyanese Chow Mein is a very resilient dish where choice of meat can be substituted based on preference. This dish tastes best with chicken, shrimp, or vegetarian substitute (tofu). To receive that authentic Guyanese taste, Guyanese Chow Mein noodles are a must. The Chow Mein can be purchased at local West Indian grocery stores as well as the International Foods aisle of some large grocery store chains. If not, one can easily substitute the noodle with another. Cost will vary depending on what noodle you use, but should cost between $1.50-$4.00 for a pack of noodles. For those looking for that added kick of heat and flavour, West Indian pepper sauce (or any other type of hot sauce) compliments this meal. Preparation time is 15-20mins!
